Our Society - Explore, Uncover, Discover

  • 1 Mill Street 1 Mill Street Leamington Spa, England, CV31 1ES United Kingdom (map)

Let’s Explore Society Together

Join us in Leamington to hear from people who study a wide range of subjects that affect our society. From Economics to Apps, this collection of short talks will cover different topics and why researching them is so important, as well as providing opportunities for questions and discussion. Here’s what to expect:

  • An in-depth examination of the prominent role the Indian diaspora has come to play in the West. By exploring theory and utilising historical comparisons, this talk will look closely at this unprecedented historical phenomenon and what it might mean for the future.

Arya Wadivkar is an Ecomonics student.

  • This talk will provide a brief overview of the connection between education and wellbeing. It will look at how educational institutions and other education stakeholders consider and support wellbeing. The talk will also underline the importance of wellbeing research to better understand the experience of pupils, students, and their life outcomes.

Dr Georgiana Mihut is Assistant Professor in Education Studies

  • This talk will outline the ground-breaking research that is going on at the Enterprise Research Centre on employee mental health, well-being, and productivity outcomes. This work is exploring the extent to which employers are supporting employee mental health and the kinds of practices they have in place. The research will also go on to identify the activities businesses should adopt to support good mental health and well-being at work, with the aim of influencing policy and practice.

Dr Vicki Belt is Deputy Director of Warwick’s Enterprise Research Centre.

  • Rising housing costs put pressure on households from a wide range of incomes. Many reasons drive price increases including gentrification, developers’ monopoly power, and increasing construction costs. Amrita studies another reason – restrictions on the supply of housing. Think greenbelts that affect where units can be built, or height and density restrictions that affect what type of housing can be built.

Dr Amrita Kulka is Assistant Professor of Economics.

  • “Super apps” are on the rise worldwide, especially in Southeast Asia, India and Africa. These are “do-everything apps” that offer a wide range of services in a single interface, making them more integrated into people's lives. In this presentation, Michael will discuss his ongoing research into this fascinating area.

Dr Michael Dieter is Associate Professor within the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies.

Tickets are free but registration is required, and will include one drinks voucher and light refreshments.
