  • 1 Mill Street 1 Mill Street Leamington Spa, England, CV31 1ES United Kingdom (map)

Artificial Intelligence is all around us, and often where we least expect it! Join us for the first of two evenings discussing how this technology is utilised in different contexts, with a focus on its application in hospitals and medical research.

Hear from experts on the practical applications of AI and how it can help with diagnosis and understanding of different diseases, with talks to include:

Fraser Birks - Can AI Do Research?
AI is on the rise everywhere. But how far will it go in science? In this talk, PhD student Fraser Birks will explore whether modern AI truly has the capability to discover, and will question if AI is changing what it really means to be a scientist.

John James - From Target to Hit in 30 Days: Drug Discovery Powered by Machine Learning
Current approaches to treat human diseases rely on a series of experiments to identify potential drug targets and then screen them for effectiveness. A major bottleneck in this 'pipeline' is the need to know the 3-dimensional shape of the target, which can sometimes take years. I will discuss how new machine learning approaches have started to revolutionise this process to allow new therapeutics to be identified and tested within a month.

Busola Oronti - Thinking differently about AI in healthcare
Narratives of artificial intelligence in the public domain is sometimes intriguing due to different perspectives on what AI is all about. In this talk, I will walk you through a very basic introduction to AI and its most common terminologies, describe a few of my research outputs as it relates to potential AI use in medical and home settings, discuss some challenges being faced with AI acceptance in the wider public sphere, and dispel some myths about its capabilities.

Simon Graham - Revolutionising Healthcare with AI for Pathology
Examination of pathology slides is essential in ensuring accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment of many diseases, such as cancer. For many years, this has been done by visual inspection of the tissue with a microscope, but the digital pathology revolution means AI can be utilised to assist pathologists in delivering quicker and more accurate results – ultimately leading to better patient care. In this talk, I will discuss some of our recent developments in the area of AI for pathology and how it can revolutionise healthcare.

Doors open and refreshments available from 6:00pm. Recommended for ages 16+
