An evening to Engage, Inspire, and Entertain…

Join us for the first night of our 2023 Resonate Festival! We have two main events this evening, a talk plus Q&A from Dr Nighat Arif on perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause, on from 7-8pm. Open to everyone, come along for a frank and informative talk and find out what steps you can take to get more information, find solutions and support your loved ones who are or will go through it. From 8.30-9.30pm we have a talk from local writing royalty Mike Gayle who will be sharing stories from his 25 years as a novelist alongside author Catherine O'Flynn.

Kenilworth Books will be here with books to purchase (and get signed) and to help you have a great evening we have live music in the foyer plus a range of other activities, talks and workshops including:

Dr Alex Baker: When Medicines Become Drugs - How Simple Chemical Changes Change the World (7:15 - 7:45pm)

This talk explores the small chemical changes to medicines, such as morphine, that turn them into illicit drugs. The talk considers the history and impact of these small chemical changes on biochemistry and humanity, from solubility to the War on Drugs in the United States.

Hidden in plain hearing: the stories of coercive control (8:15 - 8.45pm)
Recognising the evidence for the new crime of coercive and controlling behaviour presents some challenges for criminal justice agencies. In this talk Sarah Woodward outlines how research conducted in an English Faculty might be able to help. Please note this talk deals with the topic of coercive and controlling behaviour and includes descriptions of sexual activity and sexual language.

Dr Clare Rowan: "More than coins, more than brothel pieces: Tokens in the Roman world"
What role did tokens play in the Roman Empire? Come along and find out, and have the opportunity to handle some ancient coins!

Coventry: Lost, Found, Imagined
A collaborative exhibition from artists John Whitmore, Emma O'Brien and Amanda Glanville showcasing iconic spaces in Coventry as you’ve never seen them before.

Lasers and Light, A Particle or a Wave We control and use light to measure and perform tasks in the modern world. In this demonstration we will show how we steer light for scientific experiments, from the detection of gravitational waves to the colour of historic paintings and everything in between.

Joining us is completely free, but you will need to register for a General Admission ticket (which will include drinks vouchers).

Our two main events have limited capacity so you will need to book separate tickets for each of the two talks, you can book tickets for Dr Nighat Arif and Mike Gayle below.

You will get a confirmation email with a QR code for each of the bookings you’ve made, please bring these with you on the night (print out or accessible on your phone).

This event is aimed at those aged 18 and above, but we welcome 14-17 year olds with an accompanying adult.
