Scientists help policy-makers make public health decisions, but who helps the scientists?

  • 1 Mill Street 1 Mill Street Leamington Spa, England, CV31 1ES United Kingdom (map)

This event will share the story of a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Group, who have been working with researchers from Warwick Medical School, Warwick Mathematics Institute, and Oxford University. Hear talks on how health researchers, mathematical modellers, health economists and members of the public come together to co-develop computer models that can help inform policy makers who are making decisions about vaccination programmes, such as those for COVID-19, Measles, and flu.

As part of the event, the speakers will present a hypothetical case and ask the audience to act as the PPI group. You will help the scientists to make decisions about how to approach modelling this new disease and how a vaccination programme might work. And at the end of the event, you can take on the role of the policy makers and discuss how you would use this information to tackle new challenges.

Doors and refreshments from 6:30pm, event start time 7:00pm.

This event is aimed at those 18+, and will discuss topics such as vaccination, disease and ill health, and COVID-19. We are unable to accept attendees under 18 at this event.

Tickets are free but registration is required, and will include one drinks voucher and light refreshments. Those with dietary requirements should speak to 1 Mill Street staff on the day of the event.
